Start of construction Gouda Cheese Warehouse

Friday, April 8, we celebrate the official start of construction of the Gouda Cheese Warehouse.
This national monument will be transformed into a residential building with 52 loft apartments. Currently 90% of the apartments have been sold.
The Mayor of Gouda, Milo Schoenmaker, will launch this special moment with the cutting of a 60 kilogram cheese Friday April 8th at 4.30 p.m.

By means of some smart architectural interventions the former cheese warehouse “De Producent” will be transformed into a residential building full of light, air and space. To create light and outdoor space while maintaining the cultural values, Mei created loggias at strategic parts in the existing facade. The original alley between the two warehouses will transform into a central atrium allowing natural light into the whole building. The main hall will have two entrances, one at the Wachtelstraat and one at the Westerkade. The Original cheese boards  will be used as a wall finish in the atrium. Parts of the original exterior walls remain standing in the atrium and will be reused as elevator shafts. With two glass elevators going up and down along this historic walls, residents and visitors will reach their homes on the upper floors and in the meantime experience the building.

Whitehouse Development BV is developer of the project and Vergeer Bouw takes care of the execution. The apartments will be completed in the second quarter of 2017.
