On 2 June, Mei architects and planners signed the national commitment declaration ‘biobased, unless’ – an important step towards a more future-proof construction practice. The declaration was signed during a gathering at the Keilepand in Rotterdam, where thirty of the more than sixty participating architecture firms formalised their commitment. Architect Joost Wetzel signed on behalf of Mei, having also completed the accompanying training on biobased construction.
By signing the declaration, Mei commits to adopting the principle of ‘biobased, unless’ as the starting point for every new project. This collective promise, initiated by Building Balance, marks a shift from pioneering to establishing a new standard in architectural practice.
The declaration aligns seamlessly with Mei’s broader commitment to sustainable and circular building methods. The firm has previously signed the Timber Construction Covenant MRA, Het Nieuwe Normaal (The New Normal), and joined the network of the National Knowledge Centre for Biobased Construction.
