The new McDonald’s pavilion in Rotterdam, designed by mei architects and planners, has been nominated for the ARC15 Detail Award, a Dutch prize for realized architecturally challenging projects which distinguish themselves through innovative details within a coherent overall concept.
The jury – consisting of Ronald Schleurholts (Cepezed), Arie van der Neut (studio Nine Dots), François Claessens (WVH) Tillmann Klein (TU Delft), George Henkens (Aronsohn) and Maartje Henket (editor of Technology Architect) – praises the consistent detailing and also the realization process.
Thanks to an ambitious client / franchizer, the result is a pavilion that is called ‘ the fanciest McDonald’s in the world’ ! And thanks to the close cooperation with the various utilities, Mei managed to fully integrate the power boxes in the façade.
