Together with Nice Developers, Mei organized an internal Design & Build competition: Kom BIJ Mei.
The competition calls for a new, innovative and high-design product that stimulates biodiversity in the city in a broad sense. Mei and Nice are looking for a creative approach to a design and a workable product that can be reproduced on a small, medium and large scale.
The first pitches took place at the end of September, at the RDM location. 8 teams presented their innovative concepts, ranging from bee hotel to bird nest box and from a Bakkie to a Nice Bike.
The six-member jury, including Piet Vollaard, co-founder of De Natuurlijke Stad, and Wessel van Beerendonk, owner of Studio RAP, selected three finalists. They will further elaborate the concepts and develop working prototypes. The final pitch will take place at the end of October.
The winner of the competition will not only win eternal fame, but will also receive a great cash prize. Mei and Nice will take the winning design into production and use it in the further development and promotion of SAWA: the first fully wooden residential building in Rotterdam.
