The second episode of “Idealen in Steen” (Ideals in Stone), a Dutch documentary series by OPEN Rotterdam, examines high-rise buildings in Rotterdam. Both Fenix I and SAWA are juxtaposed with the vision of pioneer Willem van Tijen, designer of the first residential flats in the Netherlands.
The episode discusses the question of where to go with housing. Can we learn something from the last century? If it were up to Robert Winkel, it would be a good idea to look at the construction method, as we do with SAWA. “We think it is very important to show the next generation that buildings like this can be made. (…) It’s not just about creating more houses, but about creating a better quality of living. In which the world, the city and the people become better.
