Gasometer as WAFX 2024 Winner in the Carbon and Climate Category
The Gasometer in Münster, an icon of the city’s industrial past, is undergoing a remarkable transformation into a vibrant center for sustainable living. Once a vital source of fossil fuels for the city, this monumental structure is now set to become a beacon of environmental consciousness and community engagement. This ambitious project, led by an interdisciplinary team of designers and consultants, is guided by three core principles: preserving and building upon the iconic character and identity of the Gasometer; inspiring healthy living and giving back energy and greenery to the city; and fostering an engaged local community.
Four awards for Gasometer
The WAFX award is the fourth prize for the Gasometer project. Earlier this year, the architects won an Iconic Award, Architecture MasterPrize, and DNA Paris Design Award with the design. Additionally, Gasometer was a finalist in both the WAF Future Project Awards and the Architizer A+ Awards.
World Architecture Festival
The WAF awards are presented annually at the prestigious World Architecture Festival, the only awards program where finalists present their projects live to a jury before a winner is selected. This year, the festival took place at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, where Robert Winkel presented on behalf of Mei architects and planners. Mei also won awards at WAF in 2021 for Fenix I, Kabeldistrict, and SAWA.
Gasometer is being developed and designed with an international and multidisciplinary team of experts in this ambitious project, consisting of the client / developer UTB Projektmanagement GmbH, collaborative and local architect Peter Bastian (Peter Bastian Architekten), landscape architects Inside Outside and consultants PIRMIN JUNG, AWD Ingenieure, INNIUS, Bauart Ingenieure and ENGIE Deutschland.
