Fenix I wins BNA award 2020

Fenix I has won the award BNA Best Building of 2020 in the Livability and Social Cohesion category!

A fantastic achievement, which we are proud of with the whole team. Compliments and congratulations to all partners, and Heijmans in particular.

The jury is impressed by the rugged concrete construction, the daring modern intervention and the way in which Fenix 1 gives a powerful impulse to an emerging neighborhood.
The jury chairman Neelie Kroes is, as a Rotterdam resident, very charmed by Fenix I and acknowledges that as a residential-work building it is already ready for the new normal, with many possibilities for relaxation, working from home and greenery. The idea that – by restoring the principle of the gallery flat – architecture promotes the encounter between neighbors also appeals to her.

Thanks to the jury for this significant recognition. It is fitting and deserved – if we say so ourselves – that Fenix I is the only residential building among all 10 nominees to receive this award from the jury. Especially in this category, specifically at this time of COVID-19.

Our congratulations go to Forum Groningen of NL Architects & team for the overall jury prize; DomusDela van Diederendirrix for the public award; and all other winners.
